Der Schlachtensee

Schlachtensee, a lake located within the Borough of Steglitz-Zehlendorf, lent its name to the district that surrounds it, and is situated roughly between the neighbouring lakes Krumme Lanke and Wannsee and the woodlands of Grunewald.  The area along the shores of Schlachtensee is considered among the greenest in Berlin.

Lakefront trails extend over 5.5 kilometres, perfect for running, walking or just strolling. On the east shore, and therefore not far from Schlachtensee-Carré, lies Alte Fischerhütte, a listed historic inn and a favourite destination for weekend outings among the local population. You may also hire wooden boats here. The residential neighbourhoods bordering the lake are defined by mansion-like houses. The district is also home to several renowned scientific institutions, some belonging to the Free University Berlin, and many art and culture venues. Schlosspark Theatre in Steglitz is not far either.
